Dolphin Jobs

So you are interested in dolphin jobs! The most popular one would be with dolphin training. There are also other dolphin jobs. You could be a dolphin veterinarian. Unless the facility is very large veterinarians may serve more than one location, and may also work with other marine mammals. You would have to go to vet school and choose to do your interning and focus in this area.

There are also some centers that just house or rehabilitate dolphins. and other marine mammals. Although training principles can be good to know for this too, in order to help in feeding sessions and other things like directing the animal to different locations or for the ability to do health checks.

If you train a dolphin to station (or sit still in front of you) then you can take a good look at, and ask for something else, like for it to turn over and hold. These things can be very important in order to make sure the dolphin is healthy and well taken care of. But the main focus wouldn't be on training but in husbandry (or care of the animal) and even in rehabilitating stranded ones.

There are also dolphin therapists. These are people that work specifically with dolphin therapy programs and may even specialize with a certain population like special needs children.

In order to get into this field it is good to have a background in either counseling, physical or occupational therapy. Some insurance companies can pay for parts of these services for clients is the therapist is licensed in one of these fields, depending on what the clients problems are.

Also, you must volunteer and do an internship with a dolphin therapy center. You could also follow the dolphin training information as this is very helpful too, and probably would benefit you in the long run. But this specialization area is important to also get experience from one of them.

There are also other specialty fields like boat tour guides. In this case it would be good to learn how to drive a boat and learn about the waters and areas where dolphins live so you could work in this field. You would need to invest in a a commercial boaters license, and again look for opportunities to volunteer/intern or get more training.
Or photography where you would definitely want to learn scuba and underwater video or film taking.

Or you might be interested in more conservation type jobs like marine biologists who tag, identify and track dolphins and other marine life. Some specialists keep track of pods, new babies and the health of the wild dolphins all around the world. They may also take part in helping stranded or hurt dolphins.

In addition you might join the law force or in (marine patrol) or a military branch that scans the oceans and look for people violating the Marine Mammal Act. There are still people who will illegally hunt dolphins (the USA and United Kingdom have banned even capturing them), and you could help in preventing and stopping those that are still engaging in this.

There are still others that don't directly work with dolphins but just draw them or paint, do sculptures, jewelery, etc., because of the inspirational nature of this animal and its beauty. If you have an artistic talent you might be interested in doing something like this as a dolphin artist, and would need to get further training in your artistic talent through educational programs

Your choice! So enjoy the dolphins then get to work!
