Swim with Dolphins in Hawaii

This is a top destination for many people, with lots to offer. But to swim with dolphins in Hawaii is one of the main reasons for coming. The bottlenose and spinner dolphins are most common in the area, but I also saw spotted dolphins and there are 8 different kinds that live in this area.

There are several dolphin centers where you can participate in encounters, and swim with dolphins. Dolphin Quest is located on both the Big Island and Oahu. They have a natural lagoon area with fresh ocean water coming in and out at all times. They have lots of programs for kids and individualized sessions if you want one. Sea Life Park on Oahu is also another popular destination. You can interact with the dolphins plus lots of other marine life like sea turtles, penguins (yes, many penguins like warm, tropical areas!) and sea lions.

Hawaii also has lots of wild swims and boat tours. Some places will offer more than just the swim, or boat tour including dolphin seminars which focus on healing, transformations, and other inspirational stories.

A top place to see dolphins throughout the year is in "Spinner Dolphin Bay" or the actual name of Kealakekua Bay. This is located in Kona, HI (the Big Island). You can snorkel in this bay, and I saw kayakers paddling through too. I used to live near Kona and saw the wild dolphins in this area. The Big Island has lots to offer and truly has the feel of an "island", with many areas still not populated.

During the winter months humpback whales are also common, so if you want to see these magnificent creatures too, you might plan to come while they are migrating.

This may not be related to dolphins, but if you are a scuba diver, or just lover of marine life, or just want to experience a top 10, then check out the manta rays dive. This is considered one of the top 10 dives in the world. In Hawaii there are many places that will offer this dive, but the top 10 list is for the ones that occur at night, and it is inspirational!

Many people want to swim with dolphins in hawaii, if you haven't experienced it yet. You can find locations specific to encounters or therapy at these locate sites pages. Although Hawaii doesn't seem to offer therapy programs specifically for special needs children, so if you are looking for this, you will have to choose a different destination. You could check out the therapeutic swims for adults to see if they can make accommodations.
